Races of the North

Northern Cement Corp. and Trisports Solutions Inc. bring the Races of the North, a two-part triathlon races to be held in two of the country’s top summer destinations, Ilocos Norte and Pangasinan.
The fourth Tri Ilocos Norte, happening on March 19, and the second Tigasin Triathlon on May 14, are expected to be bigger with more exciting prizes, more challenging race courses and surprise celebrity guests that will make the race experience memorable.
Kicking off the series was the Tigasin Trail, a week-long road show from Jan. 19 to 24, with Northern Cement Corp.’s Tigasin Tri Team and Trisports Solutions Inc.’s organizing team in collaboration with various triathlon teams from Pampanga, La Union, Pangasinan, Baguio, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte. The activity aimed to strengthen the different triathlon communities in the northern area of Luzon.
Following the success of the previous races, Tri Ilocos Norte 4 continues to strengthen its “sportourism” advocacy. Participants from different parts of the country and international triathletes alike are awed by the world-class race course combined with scenic views and historical landmarks of the region.
“I felt safe all throughout the race course,” said Michael Murphy, Australian professional triathlete and overall male champion of last year’s Tri Ilocos Norte 3.
All these have been possible with the support of the provincial government of Ilocos Norte headed by Gov. Imee Marcos.
Tigasin Triathlon, on its second year, continues to draw more attention from triathletes and local tourists as the venue takes place in an upbeat contrast of beach resorts and perplexing race course. The support of the provincial government of Bolinao, Pangasinan, headed by mayor Arnold Celeste has been pronounced as the event presents an opportunity to showcase the province’s natural resources, culture and tradition.
This year’s course starts off with the swim leg at the Guiguiwanen Beach followed by the bike and run along the stretch of Bolinao National Highway headed towards El Pescador Beach. Participants and their company will enjoy the must-see tourist spots including the white sand beaches of Patar, the Bolinao Lighthouse, the 400-year old St. James Church and the quest to the caves.
Registration for the Races of the North is still open and available through www.trisports.ph. The Races of the North has also been made possible by their marketing partners Brooks Running Philippines, Pangil Beach Resort, Playa Tropical Resort, Hi-Factor, Sharetea!, MeanGreen Philippines, Neptune Actives, Funkita, 360PRO, GU, Polar and TYR, and media partners Business Mirror, Cook magazine, Health and Fitness, The View, Graphic magazine, Pinoy Fitness, IRIS Pictures, Punto!, CLTV and WhenInManila.com.
